Mother and grandmother Melaia Qaranivalu, 78, was the star of the family yesterday.

She was blessed when her entire family came together at Nakama Village in Labasa to celebrate Mother’s Day.

“Mothers make us who we are and what we can become. They show us love and charity and always there for us when we mess up,” Ms Qaranivalu’s daughter, Asenaca Vakabiuwaqa, said.

“The whole family have come together to celebrate Mother’s Day in the village including the children.”

She said by celebrating the day we honour and express our gratitude for all that mothers have sacrificed.

“A mother is a very special person without her we won’t be here.”

Ms Qaranivalu is married to Savenaca Vakavotu and they have eight children – Vasitia Buloulala, Asenaca Vakabiuwaqa, Akisi Mrelea, Litea Dirai, Seini Muarewa, Senimili Buresomo, Sera Ivi and Viniana Utoni with more than 20 grandchildren.
