Ex-teacher Looks Forward To Life As MP

Fiji’s newest Member of Parliament looks forward to contributing to national life and is ready to face the challenges that come with them.

Jilila Nalibu Kumar said knowing she would soon be a Member of Parliament made her feel humble and grateful.

The 56-year-old knows her new role comes with challenges.

“It is new for me and I will face challenges. I cannot promise anything yet, but I have to go in there first,” she said.

“I will give my full support to the Government – that is why I am there. I would like to focus on things, let me go there first,” said Mrs Kumar.

She replaces former FijiFirst Member of Parliament Doctor Neil Sharma, who has resigned from his Parliament seat last month.

Mrs Kumar received the 33rd highest vote in the 2014 General Election.

She is a retired teacher and is married to schoolteacher Dhiren Kumar.

They have three children – two daughters and a son.
