Joseph Kwadjo will leave today for Ghana after failing to get an extension to his work permit.

The boxer, who had been registered as an employee of Road Sealing Services Limited, has been in the country since 2008.

The Immigration Department cited various reasons for not renewing the work permit.

And the company’s failure to find a local for the position and failure to adhere to the documentary requirements of the Immigration Department.

Kwadjo, 29, said he was disappointed to leave Fiji.

“I love it here and I have always had a special place for Fiji in my heart and called Fiji home,” he said.

“I have fought many fights overseas and I want to remain here, I don’t want to go, Fiji is the place to be after all.”

The 29 year old has fought three and won three local fights defeating Paula Tuilau with a second round KO in Suva, (April 25, 2009), twice beat late Zulfikar ‘Joy’ Ali on points in Suva (December 19, 2009) and in Nadi second round KO (November 22, 2011).

Former promoter Mustafa Khattab said it was sad to see Kwadjo leave given his contribution to boxing.

“It is a sad story for a boxing champion like him to depart in such a way; he is a boxer, a sportsman as well,” Khattab said.

“He fought in overseas programmes carrying the Fijian flag as well, but we respect the laws and the circumstances surrounding his departure.”
