The Ministry of Health plans to have its divisional laboratories managed and supervised by trained pathologists.

This was revealed by the Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Veena Bhatnagar while closing the two-day 2015 Regional Pathology Symposium last Saturday at the Fiji National University’s College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Science Pacifika Auditorium.

She said the Ministry had been the principal benefactor of training offered by the College which included graduates of under and post graduate courses offered for major discipline in medicine, nursing and allied health.

She advised stakeholders to keep “fanning the flame” to keep pathology in the forefront of health ministries in the region.

This is to ensure a critical component of the holistic patient care is not compromised.

Members of medical fraternity, students and colleagues were also reminded on the importance of pathology in patient care and their optimal management.

The symposium included international speakers to advocate on the importance of pathology.
