The $4.5 million Denarau Yacht Club will be officially opened by President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau this Saturday.

The two storey building, which is open to the public, will cater for social gathering for the yachting fraternity, visitors and locals.

The building is owned by the Port Denarau Marina and is leased by The Rhum Ba, a company set up in partnership by Port Denarau Marina managing director Nigel Skeggs and Mike Denis.

The Rhum Ba will incorporate a bar and casual style dining on the ground level complete with a deck overlooking the marina and offering an amazing view of the mountains of the sleeping giant.

Mr Skeggs said the bottom, which has a bar and restaurant, is open to the public with an outdoor terrace.

“We have the best venues to cater for weddings, and corporate events,” he said.

“Downstairs can accommodate 230 people and the top storey depends on the place laid out to meet the hirer’s needs.

“There will be specialties of great food with great services. This is an exciting new facility on Denarau marina which has been long in years of planning by the marina and its stakeholders.”

Mr Denis said The Rhum Ba boasts one of the top bars in the Southern Hemisphere in the rum selection.

“We will be offering more than 100 rums from around the world, having the largest selection of rum in Fiji and one of the best selection in the southern hemisphere,” he said.

He said the the club is expected to draw more events such as the ANZ Auckland to Denarau yacht races, and international game fishing competitions.

Meanwhile, the yacht club will be operational normally from Monday following the official opening by the President on Saturday.
