Indian Financial Expert Speaks At FIA Here

The Fiji Institute of Accountants Congress this week has attracted a top speaker from India.

The Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from September 2008 until September 2013, Dr Duvvuri Subbarao, will be presenting on day one. The Fiji Institute of Accountants Congress will be held this Friday and Saturday at the Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort on Yanuca Island.

Dr Subbarao will be speaking during the third session under the theme: ‘The Licence to Say No: The Courage to Believe’.

The 2015 congress, which is expected to attract over 400 delegates has Vodafone Fiji and Westpac as major sponsors.

The theme is ‘A Vision for the Future – Believe it and Achieve it’.

About the speaker

One of the highlights of Dr Subbarao’s career was leading India’s financial system during the global financial crisis period.

He became Governor of the Reserve Bank of India just a week before the global financial crisis erupted in full in mid-September 2008.

Dr Subbarao led the effort to mitigate the impact of the crisis on the Indian economy and to institute economic and financial sector reforms reflecting lessons of the crisis.

His five-year tenure was also marked by a calibrated monetary policy response to the growth-inflation balance and managing the growing strains on India’s balance of payments.

Dr Subbarao is credited to have given a significant reorientation to both the process and content of monetary policy formulation by the Reserve Bank consistent with India’s rapid integration into the world.

Given this experience, there will surely be a lot of interesting issues brought out to be discussed and interesting to see how our financial sector could leverage from his expertise.
