Fitness trainer

Dharmendra Kumar, Suva

We have praised the 12 warriors of the Fijian Vodafone 7s team, and of course the man of the moment, Ben Ryan.

They deserve all the accolades   but we have indeed forgotten the man tasked with keeping the player’s fitness up to par, trainer     Nacanieli Cawanibuka.

If you will scrutinise their performance carefully we have been injury-free for a few tournaments and absolutely fit.Vinaka Naca.

Glasgow win

Congratulations to the Fijian Vodafone 7s team for winning a riveting final, in the rain, at Glasgow and qualifying for the Rio Olympics.

I am sure that was a fitting farewell for the folks at Glasgow since it was the last event at that venue.

For the first time, there is a probable chance of Fiji winning an Olympic medal, hopefully gold.

The highlight for me was the tongue-lashing coach Ben Ryan gave the team at half-time.

You could see the faces of the Fijian players thinking “is this the same jovial guy.”

Who says pep talks at halftime don’t work?

Vinaka boys.

Greatest teams

The mighty All Blacks and the Springboks are the two greatest teams in World Rugby.

But having a tiny tier 2 nation, like Fiji, with a fraction of their budget walloping their 7s teamS over and over again is astounding.

That’s comparable to the late Sunia Cama knocking out Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazer over and over again in that era.

South African 7s captain Kyle Brown summed it up when he said: “Understanding how the Fijians play is easy. To counter them is a different story.”

Hats off to Ben Ryan and his training and management staff for molding a team that exposes and presents the Fijian flair with their explosive strength and making the boys believe in themselves even if it meant the use of some harsh words.

Vinaka vakalevu to captain Osea Kolinisau and others in the team!

We also thank those players in the extended training squad who helped set the current benchmark.

We must not also forget the families of each of these players. They give their ultimate support and love from behind the scene enabling the boys to do what they do.

We thank the Government for assisting the 7s team and for paying their coach.

May the biggest glory be to God for blessing Fiji with abundance of talent.

My, my, my! What a performance!

Thanks to Ben Ryan and the boys for their grit and determination.

Not forgetting those behind the scenes, Paula Biu, Nacanieli Cawanibula, Chris Cracknell and others.

A niggling bit of negatives in rudeness is not the direction for Christian Ambassadors. Surely we can win without this?

Rio, here we come! Toso Viti!

Personal celebration

Wise Muavono, Lautoka

I met a young lad and asked why he wasn’t in school since it was the first day of term two. He said he was celebrating Fiji’s win in Glasgow.

Ovalau Club

Mike Reid, Levuka

I have tried for several years to get an answer from every authority I know of as to the legal status of the Ovalau Club in Levuka.

I have received no reply. The Club is missed by many and its resurrection would be an asset to Levuka and its heritage and tourism goals.

The building has been derelict for several years. It has no living trustees.

There is no membership or records of debts etc.

Could someone advise us please or offer an opinion in this forum?
