A tourist vessel Gotta-Go Fiji Cruiser (pictured) has been given orders to be removed by Friday (May 15) as confirmed by Harbour Master Lautoka, Captain Peni Yauvoli.

The vessel has been stuck there since March 16 and they are waiting for its owners to remove her as per their duty of care.

On March 17, Fiji Ports Corporation Limited’s Removal Order was sent to the owner’s representatives as per requirements.

“We have sent the owner our final “Removal Order” on April 15, with a 30 day’s time-frame, expiring May 15, 2015.

“Indeed it is an eyesore and of course a threat to the marine ecosystem but removal is no easy task as we are bounded by other legal implications and procedures that have to be followed.

“In fact we have been following all legal procedures as per Seaports Management Act 2005 pertaining to her removal.

“First and foremost, the owner has the ‘duty of care’ to remove her vessel. The corporation’s duty is to remind the owner by way of ‘removal order’.”

The Port has been officially notified that the owner is engaged in talks with a salvage company for the removal work.

“We hope that the vessel will be removed within our deadline. If they fail to remove by the deadline we will follow other procedures set out in the Seaports Management Act 2005 to ensure final removal of the derelict vessel,” Captain Yauvoli said.

The owner is said to be an Australian with a local managing the company.

The Fiji Ports Corporation was told that there was no fuel on board the vessel.

Gotta-Go tourist’s cruiser operated from Port Denarau and while it was under operation it took tours to the Mamanucas.
