The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) is conducting an investigation on a fire in a derelict ship inside Suva Harbour yesterday morning.
The MV Victory 2, abandoned for sometime at the harbour near Walu Bay was sighted to be on fire at 3am yesterday.
Fiji Ports Corporation Limited chief executive officer Vajira Piyasena said the fire was first sighted by the Harbor Control Unit which noticed the smoke coming out from the vessel and alerted the Fiji Ports Authority.
“The boat was abandoned for a very long time and therefore, no damage was found and neither any financial loss,” Mr Piyasena said.
The National Fire Authority extinguished by late afternoon.
