Speaker of Parliament Jiko Luveni had to assert her authority yesterday after the Opposition stood up to protest a procedural matter.
Opposition Whip Ratu Isoa Tikoca wanted Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama to clarify why he wanted Australia and New Zealand out of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF).
However, this question was disallowed by the Speaker, saying the Prime Minister had already addressed it in his public statements and there was no urgency for it to be dealt with in Parliament.
She was forced to stand to assert her position and the Opposition was forced to back down.
