Vuniwaqa: Lack Of Skilled Surveyors Being Addressed

The lack of skilled and qualified surveyors is being addressed, said Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Mereseini Vuniwaqa.

She was responding to a question raised by Opposition member, Ratu Kiniviliame Kiliraki, as to how they were planning to improve and enhance the Fiji Institute of Surveyors in order to alleviate the issue of lack of qualified and skilled surveyors.

“We are addressing that in three levels one is the review of laws relevant to surveyors and the budget this year, there is an allocation for the review of the Surveyors Act there is an allocation.

“What we do have is the Diploma of Survey at FNU. The Ministry is carrying out talks with the ministry of education to assist us in this area. We are hoping come 2016 we will have a Bachelor of Surveyors Degree offered in Fiji in one of the tertiary institutions.”

She said they had asked other governments if they could hire foreign surveyors who could assist.
