$10K Boost For Fiji Pearls

The Fiji Pearls received $10,000 from Bank South Pacific to aid in their preparation for the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea.

Netball Fiji president Wainikiti Bogidrau applauded the generous assistance.

“We were expecting $5000 and this is a double delight for the team,” she said.

“Thank you for supporting our country’s largest female sport.

“Like other sporting organisations, we are fortunate that BSP considers sports a crucial component of community development as part of its corporate social responsibilities.

“Your donation will go a long way in helping us achieve our target of $300,000 that we need not only to win gold in PNG but also to ensure we’ve a great team ready for the Netball World Cup.”

Meanwhile, Bogidrau said a cocktail would be hosted today to raise funds.

“The cocktail will be held at the Holiday Inn Suva that will start at 6pm and will be officially opened by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

“And we’ll be hoping for more corporate support as we look to get the ladies ready in time for the Games and the World Cup.”

Team naming today

Coach Kate Carpenter shared training was taking on a more specified approach as they moved towards Games and the 2015 Netball World Cup in Australia.

Carpenter also confirmed the squad to the Pacific Games would be announced today.

“For the Pacific Games, we have finalised our squad and that will be announced on Friday.

As far as new Pearls making their debut, Carpenter was excited about the prospect of getting more players exposed.

“It’s always exciting and it broadens our base of athletes that have had international experience and that in turn raises the level and makes the group more competitive.”

Carpenter also looked forward to taking Fiji to what would be her first Pacific Games in her coaching career.

The 2015 Pacific Games will be held from July 2-18 in Papua New Guinea while the 2015 Netball
