The first Bill on the national flag was tabled  yesterday in Parliament by the Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

The Bill discusses how the flag cannot be misused, manipulated or violated and the restrictions on the use of the national flag for commercial purposes.

It contains provisions for our national flag and its proper use and protection.

The Bill has been referred to the Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights, who will report back to Parliament in July, when it will be debated and voted on. Meanwhile, a Bill for an Act to declare the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Fiji was also tabled by the Attorney-General.

This Bill has also been referred to the Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights and this will be addressed in the next sitting of the committee.

A Bill for an Act to provide for a lands commission in Rotuma was also tabled before Parliament.

The Bill will provide for the registration of Rotumans, to regulate the registration, and dealings with the transmission of land and related matters.
