The Nakelo Rugby Club received a timely donation of jerseys from CJ Patel Group at Nauluvatu Village, Nakelo, Tailevu yesterday.

The team, plays in the Tailevu Rugby Union weekly competitions in the Premier grade.

Coach Levani Taka said this was the first that a major company has stepped forward to help the team.

“This is a blessing for us,” Taka said.

“After so long we now have a major company who is helping us and has given us jerseys and that really means a lot for us.

“The boys are happy and we know this will go a long way for us as a rugby club. I know they are eager to want to play more this weekend and they will play with pride.”

Also at the handover was Tailevu Rugby president Maika Rainima who said that CJ Patel’s contribution had impacted not just a team but the whole district.

“This has obviously boosted the team very much because most of our young boys have finished school and are looking for jobs,” he said.

“CJ Patel Group has not only impacted just a group of boys but a whole district, a whole generation.

“This will also encourage the younger boys because if they are idle they are bound to do things that are contrary to good living.

“Rugby is not only about running around with the ball, it is a way of harnessing a medium that we can direct them into discipline, into time management and learning to work as a team.”

CJ Patel’s national sales manager Khem Raj said they planned on continuing such donations in the future.

“We are known for sponsoring major tournaments such as the Skipper Cup but we now want to take it another level,” Raj said.

“We want to help villages and clubs in future.”
