Vasiti Vugakoto has great expectations for what the Fiji Pearls can accomplish at the Pacific Games in July and Netball World Cup in August.

The former national rep shared her thoughts on the team’s chances of retaining gold in Papua New Guinea.

“I think the Pearls stand a good chance,” she said.

“They’ve had a lot of game time and played a lot of international teams and had exposure so I would say I’m confident the girls will come back with gold.”

As far as the possibility of one day stepping into head coach Kate Carpenter’s shoes, Vugakoto was hopeful.

“I would love to because I would say that netball is in my blood. I come from a family of netball and to us netball is like a second life,” she said.

“So I would to really love to give back everything that I have to netball. I would say that it is the sport that made me who I am today.”

Vugakoto first represented Fiji as a 16-year-old in 1986 and played her last international at the 2003 Netball World Cup in Jamaica.
