FRA, cheif executive, Neil Cook.

A key issue which everyone has been battling with has been the condition of the roads in the country.

To combat the worsening conditions, Government has been allocating a big chunk of the national budget for the past three years towards infrastructure upgrade.

The Fiji Roads Authority was set up by Government to oversee all road works and the man at the helm of this is the chief executive, Neil Cook.

Whilst there are some people who are happy with the way road works have progressed, there are still some disgruntled stakeholders.

And what better way to present the challenges, problems and plans to upgrade the roads than to speak to the leaders about these.

Mr Cook will be speaking at the Fiji Institute of Accountants FIA Congress 2015 on day two tomorrow at the Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort on Yanuca Island.

His theme is: ‘The National Roading Programme: Problem and Successes’.

The two day congress has been backed by Westpac Fiji and Vodafone Fiji as major sponsors and begins today.

Mr Cook is a Civil and Environmental Engineer recruited from New Zealand who has extensive experience in public infrastructure planning and operations.

Before coming to Fiji to take up the challenge of rebuilding the country’s road network and road maintenance industry, he was Engineering Manager for Wairoa District Council, a rural local authority with many similar issues to those Fiji currently faces.

He is a chartered Professional Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Professional Engineers of New Zealand.

Mr Cook is also a Director of Fiji Ports Terminal Limited.
