Works On Off Road Race Track To Begin Soon

The Fiji Car Club has confirmed works to build an off road race track will begin soon. The club is looking to invest $30,000 in this project.
Fiji Car Club President, Raizal Haniff, confirming this, said they are hopeful to complete this before the end of the year.
This track will be just beside the air strip in Pacific Harbour which the car club is using for its race events.
Mr Haniff said the Fiji Car Club has not had an off-road track for the past eight years.
“There are a lot of people out there who are interested in doing off-road races,” he said.
“We hope to have at least one off-road event before the end of the year provided the track is ready.”
But Mr Haniff stressed making something of this nature requires a lot of money and so the club is doing this bit by bit.
Their source of funding will be through the sponsorships, gate-takings and membership funds.
“I urge interested people who want to become members of the club to contact us to become a member of the Fiji Car Club,” he said.
“The off road race track and will be very similar to circuit racing. Cars will be going on gravel and mud.”
Yearly events
Meanwhile, the Fiji Car Club hopes to make this year bigger and better.
It has planned eight events this year out of which, six will be quarter mile drag race, one drag wars and one will be a car show.
Mr Haniff said this time they will be taking the car show to the West for the first time.
The Fiji Car Club has already opened the season with a car show in Suva this year which was during the launch of the movie Fast and Furious 7.
It has also held a quarter mile drag race the past month.
Mr Haniff said the next event they are planning is on May 31 which will be sponsored by Lincoln Refrigeration.
