In a bid to reach out to people who find it hard to access medical services, the Ebenezer Tabernacle Church held a free medical check-up for Naulu and Nakasi residents in Nasinu.

Ebenezer Global Ministries co-ordinator Ahbay Chand said they targeted the Nakasi area because of its average population of 51,000 people.

Mr Chand said they had seen the Ministry for Health doing this type of awareness in areas where people find it difficult to travel to health centres because of transportation and thought of providing medical check-ups for Nakasi residents.

“Many people find it difficult to go to health centres and sit for longer hours so we thought of reaching out to people in our own way,” he said.

Mr Chand said doctors and nurses based of Naulu Health Centre were on hand to provide medical services to residents.

“We will go out and provide the similar medical check-ups in Nausori, Korovou and the wider Tailevu area,” he said.

The services provided to Nakasi residents were general medical check-up, vision and hearing services, dental, social welfare advice, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, diabetes, advice on stroke and obese, Fiji cancer service and reproductive health services. People also received counselling on their health issues.

Nakasi resident Som Lata Prasad said they were grateful to such organisations for thinking about them.

“The facilities and the services provided to them were very good and all medical checks up were done under one roof,” Ms Prasad said.

The Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Josefa Koroivueta, was also there to serve the people of Nakasi.
