At least $1.9million has been allocated by the Fiji Roads Authority to upgrade farm roads on Rotuma.

Fiji Roads Authority representative Jese Morgan informed the people of Juju Village of this during a talanoa session at the village hall on the island last week.

Mr Morgan was part of the Government delegation headed by Commissioner Eastern that visited the island from Tuesday to Thursday last week.

“We want to upgrade the farm roads purely because of the dalo that you have on the island,” Mr Morgan said.

“We are going to provide that money to upgrade and maintain your roads for your dalo farms.”

But he said the current dalo production on the island wasn’t enough for export and for Government to invest that allocation on the island. “If you do not have enough dalo the Government may think twice about spending that money here.

“To be very precise, we have big farms in Koro and Kadavu, if you want that money to be used for you then you have to show us that you deserve that money,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said they were also planning to employ some villagers on contract basis to clean the main roads on the island because they did not have enough employees there.
