A 40-year-old driver in Nadi has become the latest casualty on our roads following an accident along the Nadi Back Road yesterday.

The man was driving the vehicle (DH 360), which a witness said went on the opposite lane and collided with the oncoming vehicle (FJ 273) that was carrying four people – a couple and two children.

The man was pronounced dead on the spot while the momentum of the crash forced one vehicle to crash into a market stall by the road, injuring a woman who was selling vegetables.

The witness, a bus driver, Faiyaz Ali of the Khan Buses Limited, was on his way to Lautoka when he saw the crash.

“I was behind the car and suddenly the orange car came and hit the other vehicle face to face and it hit the lady who was selling vegetables on the road side,” Mr Ali said.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said: “The occupants of the other vehicle include four people a couple and their two children are now at Nadi Hospital receiving treatment.”

She said the woman at the roadside market was also injured and was now in hospital. Police are investigating.

The public are again advised to be vigilant when using the road.
