The Ministry of Women has partnered with the Fiji Arts Council and Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism to open up new marketing opportunities for rural women in Fiji.

Minister Rosy Akbar says through this partnership the women will be upskilled to produce quality Fijian-Made products.

Meanwhile the Bua Soqosoqo Vakamarama president, Laisa Lewanavanua, said they were preparing well for their mini-showcase from May 27 to 29 in Bua.

Similar sentiments were shared by the members of the Soqosoqo Vakamarama of Macuata.

Fine handicrafts, traditional mats, fans, baskets and many more items that the women of Bua and Macuata are reknowned for will be on showcase during their different shows.

“Marketing networks have already been established where reliable markets are opening up for women,” Ms Akbar said.

The ministry will also negotiate with corporate bodies to maximise the opportunities for rural women to access market services.

Ms Akbar said overseas market opportunities were also available for rural women.

Meanwhile, the Divisional Crafts Shows have already started in Levuka with upcoming shows organised in Koro Island in Lomaiviti, Matuku in Lau, Kadavu, Suva, Nabouwalu in Bua, Labasa in Macuata and Savusavu in Cakaudrove.
