People can make use of practical solutions and methods of food preparation to minimise the impact of non-communicable diseases (NCD).

This was revealed by the Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Veena Bhatnagar while opening the Mini-Health Expo at the Suva Civic Centre yesterday.

“The world is flooded with junk foods,” Ms Bhatnagar said.

“Its primary purpose is to make profit irrespective of human cost. We are faced with the onslaught of non-communicable diseases. It is possible that everyone have lost someone from diabetes, stroke, heart attack, high blood pressure and cancer. These are diseases that are so prevalent among people and cause 80 per cent of deaths in the country,” she said.

The ministry and the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s Health and Dorcas Welfare and Women Ministry conducted the expo to educate on health issues affecting people.

The expo ends on Thurday.
