No Legislation: A-G

The Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed- Khaiyum, said that there was no specific legislation that stopped or controlled sponsorship of Government programmes.

The A-G was responding to an oral question raised by Opposition member Salote Radrodro if there was any legislation on sponsorship of Government programmes, events or initiatives.

“There is of course a restriction on advertising by tobacco companies that includes in public space whether it is Government or private sector.

“If there is any conflict of any interest that may arise on the sponsorship of a particular public event, then certain procedures need to be followed,” he said.
