Specialist consultants will be brought in to advise on the relocation of the Fijian Naval base.

The relocation is unlikely to take place this year because it was not included in the National Budget. However, Government had allocated $7million for the development of the RFMF Black Rock Camp in Nadi for 2015.

Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Land Force Commander Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho said while the process was a long one, they had identified some possible  locations.

“We are looking for specialists to come and identify the best suitable location for a naval base,” Colonel Qiliho said.

He said if they could not find the right consultant locally, they would look abroad.

The planned relocation is to allow Government to carry out its plans in the commercialisation of the ports area.

The current naval base is located at Walu Bay, Suva.
