The commanding officer of the French Navy frigate FNS Vendemiaire yesterday paid a courtesy visit to the Fiji Police Headquarters in Suva.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Isikeli Vuniwaqa welcomed Commanding Officer Commander Herve Siret on behalf of the Fiji Police Force.

“On behalf of the Commissioner of Police and its members, we welcome you to the Fiji Police Headquarters and we are glad that you have put aside time to visit us considering your busy schedule and we appreciate the thought and gesture,” he said.

The FNS Vendemiaire is the first to visit Fiji after nine years as well as after the democratic election last year.

DCP Vuniwaqa said maintaining relationships with other international security agencies was an important area for the Fiji Police and such a visit would further strengthen diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Commander Siret presented a gift as a token of appreciation for the hospitality shown.

The FNS Vendemiaire called into Suva last Saturday (May 16) after conducting joint exercises with the Fiji Navy and is expected to leave today.
