O’Connor Waits For Call-up

FijiFirst party candidate, Alex O’Connor is next in line to become our newest Member of Parliament.

This comes after the sudden resignation of former Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Pio Tikoduadua for health reasons.

Mr O’Connor had expressed his optimism about the imminent call to Parliament on his Facebook account last week.

“I am the latest FijiFirst candidate to become an MP with the sudden resignation of Pio Tikoduadua, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport. I am hoping to take this portfolio,” he had stated.

“I am just waiting for confirmation from the Electoral Commission and FijiFirst general secretary,” he said.

When contacted Mr O’Connor said neither the FijiFirst general secretary nor the Electoral Commissioner has called to advise him of being the next in line for a seat in Parliament.

“However, I am quite aware that I am next in line having been placed 34th out of 50 FijiFirst candidates,” Mr O’Connor said.

The FijiFirst party office also confirmed they were awaiting the Fijian Electoral Commission to approve Mr O’Connor’s nomination to Parliament.

They expect him to be sworn-in at their next sitting of Parliament in July.

Attempts to contact Fijian Electoral Commission chairman Chen Bunn Young proved unsuccessful.
