Plan For Two Govt Stations

There is a need to bring services to the people in the province of Ra.

This was discussed by 30 stakeholders, including of heads of departments and the newly-elected members of the Provincial Development Board, who converged at the Penang High School conference room yesterday.

Ra provincial administrator Kelepi Kubunameca said the meeting involved discussions on upcoming and potential developments for the province of Ra.

“Discussions included capital development projects, ongoing projects and setting up of Government stations,” he said.

“We are in talks to set up a Government station at Nakorotubu and one in Nalawa that will look after all the tikina (districts) under it – since it has about 37 per cent of the province resources.”

Mr Kubunameca said also on the discussion board was the tourism projects.

Issues discussed included a request for increase in funds allocation for farm roads infrastructure and an assistant district officer to oversee the Nakorotubu Government Station and the establishment of the Nakorotubu secondary school.

“We are fulfilling what Government wants to do to take the services to the people right at grassroots level,” he said.

Mr Kubunameca added that the province of Ra was grateful for Government’s immense assistance in the education sector.

“We have seen during cane cutting season students often miss school to help parents. We are trying to make it a point to not waste Government money, especially the education assistance,” he said.

“A taskforce will be coordinated by the Ra Inter Agency body to locate students who were not attending classes.”
