The Land Transport Authority is warning all passengers to stop vandalising buses.

This follows requests by Shore Buses Limited for the LTA to crack down on acts of vandalism on their buses.

Shore Buses Limited Metrobus director Niraj Singh confirmed that one of their buses while on a chartered route last week, had three of their bus seats removed by the passengers.

LTA chief executive officer Naisa Tuinaceva said the authority had been raising public awareness on the issue.

He said people needed to take their civic responsibilities seriously while travelling on buses.

“They should supplement the service that has been granted and offered to them by the respective bus companies that is servicing them-they should not vandalise buses, or remove items in the bus that affects the entire and overall service delivery,” Mr Tuinaceva said.

“Most bus companies have invested millions of dollars annually to re-fleet so that they provide the best state-of-the-art bus to the people so that the travelling public can enjoy a more luxurious style of travel, comfortable and peaceful, re-fleeting is an ongoing programme within the bus industry as the LTA demands top quality and an efficient bus service.”

Mr Tuinaceva added that the onus was on the public to refrain from committing such illegal activities.

“Many times public complain about bad buses and frequent bus breakdowns-but now most bus companies are buying new buses as a result of peoples’ demand and they should look after the buses as if it’s their very own; have some sense of being responsible economically, financially and socially.”
