The Information Technology and Communication (ITC) problem is one of the main challenges that Government workers on Taveuni Island are facing.

This was noted by the Commissioner Northern, Jovesa Vocea, on his first official tour of the Northern Division recently.

Mr Vocea said there was a need to install a Government internet network or Govnet at the Waiyevo Government Station on Taveuni.

“Yes it was a successful trip as it gave me the opportunity the visit the island and meet fellow civil servants and listen to stories of what they are facing in their service delivery,” Mr Vocea said.

“An issue that was addressed at the same time was the need to install their Govnet internet connection,” he said.

“The ITC department is doing a preliminary survey on what needs to be done so that the Waiyevo Government Station can have easy access to the network.

Water was one of the problems highlighted and discussed during the visit.

“The Water Authority of Fiji has advised that they are now working on a big water project in Waitavala,” he said.

He said when the water project was completed it would resolve the water crisis on the island.

On the telecommunications problem he said Vodafone, Telecom and Digicel had been contacted to improve their accessibility on the island.”

The workers also shared that their Government quarters badly needed repairs and maintenance.

This was highlighted to the then Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Pio Tikoduadua, during his last visit in April.

”Scoping works are now being done and the report will be sent to PSC for the release funds for the maintenance work after this,” Mr Vocea said.

The Commissioner Northern will revisit the island later in the year.
