The Land Transport Authority’s chief executive officer, Naisa Tuinaceva, is serious about eradicating the ills of reckless driving.

He said this was part of an ongoing initiative launched earlier this year.

The LTA’s latest statistics show that out of the 26 deaths recorded so far, 14 were caused by reckless driving.

Mr Tuinaceva said LTA was concerned with the number of fatal accidents attributed to reckless driving behaviour.

“This will also be in line with the nation’s campaign under the UN Decade of Road Safety in action from 2011-2020 and these are some of the initiatives tagged to that programme,” he said.

Meanwhile, there was a march through Nadi Town to mark the LTA’s nationwide campaign on reckless driving and road safety, which ended at Nair Dais Park. The march saw students and other stakeholders taking part.

At the park, an oratory contest was staged where students spoke out against reckless driving.

The LTA’s campaign aims to educate the young and the public about road safety.
