EDITORIAL: Our Business Investment Heats Up In The West

It is always good to see the confidence of locals increasing in terms of investment.

And it is even more encouraging when we have Fijians returning to invest in Fiji.

Yet another example of the success of the dual citizenship for Fijians residing abroad was seen over the weekend in Sigatoka.

Rajendra Prasad, who has been living abroad for the past 36 years, regained citizenship in order to invest and live here.

His investment of $3.2million in a complex located on Market Street in Sigatoka now provides for a wider variety of shopping options for the Coral Coast residents.

Not forgetting those living in the interiors who are connected through Sigatoka.

The Minister for Finance and Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has noted there are a lot of Fijians who are coming back to Fiji to invest.

He says Government has now allowed multiple citizenships.

“It also shows to the rest of the world and to us that those Fijians who had left still have a very strong attachment, a strong affinity with their homeland,” he said.

Whilst it is good to acknowledge the returning citizens, it would be unfair not to acknowledge the local investors.

Local businesses such as the owners of Vinod Patel Company Limited and Shop N Save were also investing in Sigatoka over the weekend.

Vinod Patel, through its Home & Living division, opened a showroom in Sigatoka in the newly-built complex.

Shop N Save opened a supermarket in this new complex.

These are just a few of the many local investors who have been investing taking advantage of the policies of the Bainimarama Government and the positive economic climate.

Not forgetting Sigatoka is the hometown and headquarters of the Tappoo Group owners.

The Tappoo Group investments/expansion in Sigatoka giving a modern shopping experience are something not to be missed either.

The confidence in Sigatoka Town bodes well especially given the Coral Coast is rich in resorts and tourism.

Sigatoka might be seen as a small town. But the potential it presents is large. Investors are seeing this, and the potential in our new and better Fiji.
