Four Charged With Robbery

Police have charged four people and are looking for one more in relation to the robbery at the Distill Bottle shop at Flagstaff in Suva last Thursday.
The person being sought has been identified as Uate Baleiono.
Commissioner of Police Bernardus Groenewald needed 13 stitches on his head after he suffered an injury when after he single-handedly confronted the gang of robbers.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of intelligence and investigations Henry Brown confirmed that initially eight were taken in for questioning and four were released based on evidence.
“Four have been formally charged and they will appear at Suva Magistrates Court at 9am tomorrow (today).
“They have been charged with six counts of aggravated robbery, one count of theft of motor vehicle and in relation to the injury on the commissioner they have charged with one count of act with intent causing grievous harm,” ACP Brown said.
When questioned about the security detail for the Police Commissioner, ACP Brown said this was the prerogative of the Commissioner.
“There has always been security for him, but if he decides he doesn’t need a security detail then that’s his prerogative.
“He’s a trained Police officer with lots of experience,” he said.
Meanwhile, ACP Brown said they were still investigating the murder of Lees Trading CEO Holland Seeto.
“There’s a team there still pursuing leads.
“Our appeal to members of the public is still out there.
“We have not changed the tempo of the investigation,” ACP Brown said.
He said investigations into case of the 12-year-old found dead at her home in Samabula in September last year were also continuing.
“We have two Chinese Police officers who are here and they are helping us on forensic side of things,” ACP Brown said.
