The Samuela Drudru-captained Jack’s Nadi team maintained their lead in the Rewa Galaxy Premier League pointstable with 23 points from 10 matches.

The jetsetters edged a spirited Coastal Rentals Nadroga 3-2 during the second round of the league at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday.

The Stallions are on seventh spot with seven points from 10 games.

What happened: Nadi meant business from the start resulting in the first goal in the 8th minute to Vuniuci Tikomaimereke.

Striker Samuela Drudru increased Nadi’s lead to 2-0 in the 21st minute.

Nadroga kept on applying the pressure and in the 44th minute, Shalveen Jeet Singh beat Vereti Dickson to close the gap.

Half-time: Nadi 2- 1 Nadroga.

In the second spell Nadi up the tempo and resulted in a goal the 57th minute to defender Waisake Tabucavu.

In the last 20 minutes Nadi lost concentration with Nadroga striker Anish Khen pulling one back in injury time. But it was too little too late as referee Dina Mani blew the fulltime whistle.

Star turn: Nadroga defender Epeli Lairoti played well.

Big play:Nadi’s Vuniuci Tikomaimereke was instrumental in the win.

Comments:

Nadi team director Javed Ahmed said: “I think we were lucky as Nadroga came with a young squad. We did not play according to plan. We were down in the last 20 minutes and that is due to fitness but we are glad we have three points.”

Nadroga coach Ramesh Sharma said: “I think there is some improvement compared to the previous matches. The boys played well with a good fighting spirit.”
