New Centre To Incorporate Beggars

The newly build Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre in Suva will provide skills training and employment opportunities for underprivileged women including those who are found into street begging.

This was announced during the signing of the official Memorandum of Agreement between the Fiji Muslim Women’s League and the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation on Friday last week. The Ministry has provided a grant of $100,000 and sewing machines worth $17,000 to equip the new Centre that will be opened to women of all faiths.

Minister Akbar said that new Centre will boost the income generating opportunities for women by enhancing their self-confidence and talents.
