Pagent To Re-focus On Climate Change

Vodafone Hibiscus Committee chairman Hirdesh Prasad says they will be advocating on climate change again in this year’s festival.

He said they were doing this to bring much-needed attention to this ever-escalating global problem that directly impacted our lives in the Pacific

“The Hibiscus Festival has previously advocated on the conservation and protection of the environment,” he said.

He added this year the committee had come up with the theme, ‘Climate Change- Communities Adapting From Ridge to Reef’. He also noted that climate change has been a theme for many other events.

“However the Vodafone Hibiscus Committee has brought in this theme again this year,” Mr Prasad said.

He said that during last year’s Small Islands Developing States Conference in Samoa the theme was the focus of the discussions.

“All Pacific island nations have pledged their commitment toward this cause and we want to champion this throughout the Vodafone Fiji Hibiscus Festival come August this year,” he said.

The theme will be echoed in all the activities throughout the week of the festival.

Meanwhile, Mr Prasad said the committee planned to make this festival bigger and better.
