The old Sigatoka Bridge, which is currently sitting idle, will be used for commercial purposes soon, says Sigatoka Town Council chief executive officer Tulsi Ram.

Mr Ram, who is eager to develop Sigatoka, said, “I have heard and seen applications made by some people to use it for commercial purposes.

“While there’s no definite answer to that the interest is there.

“I need to talk to them to see how best we can utilise; personally I think it is a good place for commercial activities.”

He said people would be able to go on to the bridge when it was properly done up and ready for utilisation.

“In terms of OHS it is not secure at the moment as we need to do a lot of work on it.

“It will become a good place for tourists and locals to come and enjoy during their leisure time such as fishing or enjoying a cup of coffee.

Boosting tourism

Mr Ram has attended his first meeting with the Coral Coast Hotel Association and has become a member.

“I have met the association and they are eager to work with the town council to promote the district.

“Many of our people depend on tourism; tourists enjoy to be in town so we will work together to develop the town.

Mr Ram has confirmed that developments in the town area will continue over time to make it tourist friendly.

Recently the town underwent the opening of the new Vinod Patel Home and Living store in the Market Street.

Also on the same street, a Market Centre Complex was officially opened by a Fijian-born investor.
