No swearing
Ecelini Naivadra, Namadi Heights, Suva
A while back, disgusted with the iTaukei vulgarities flying thick and fast from the mouths of boys and young men of various ethnicities at an internet cafe.
I checked at the Central Police Station on whether or not it was an offence to swear in public. The answer was in the affirmative and the Police followed up on my visit with calling in on that internet outlet.
Can this offence be widely publicised for the general information of all who are ignorant?
Etched in my childhood memory is the notice in bold black capitals against a white background – NO SPITTING. I suggest that notices of NO SWEARING be widely distributed.
World Cup
Kirti Patel, Lautoka
In the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand, Fiji didn’t qualify for the quarter-finals upon which the FRU said that they would make sure to prepare the boys well for the next World Cup.
Taking into considerations that for the next World Cup is just a few months away, what preparations have taken place?
Also will be good to see the difference this time.
Can anyone from FRU wake up and give their feedback?
U20 TV coverage
Khalid Ahmed Suva
Is there any any television channel showing the Under-20 World Cup soccer live as our own country is playing ?
It could be the one and only chance for us to see them playing live.
Life after death
Lawrence Narayan, Nasinu
Most people have been taught to believe like Wise Muavono that death is a certainty and we will cease to exist.
However, the Bible teaches us just the opposite.
God hates death and that is why Jesus defeated death on the Cross of Calvary so that believers in Christ will live forever even after they have died.
“For since by a man (Adam) came death, by a man (Jesus) also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.…” 1Corinthians 15:21. “But when this perishable (body) will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
“O Death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law;…” 1Cor 15:50-55.
So death has a sting and victory over mankind but God has introduced a way out for us to overcome that and live forever. “But there is an order to this resurrection: Christ was raised as the first of the harvest; then all who belong to Christ will be raised when he comes back” – 1Cor 15:23.
Therefore, let our faith be in God and His Word rather than in the opinions of men.
UN peacekeepers
Amenatave Yaconisau, Delainavesi
On the eve of the UN peacekeepers celebration, the Ministry of Defence must not expect everyone to attend purely based on nationalism and service for countries as ex-soldiers.
They should give them certain allowance to compensate for their travel and displacement from their homes to Suva for such purposes.
Most of them are not earning and should be treated with this in mind.
The Ministry of Defence should make it a matter of policy in a circular how these veterans are compensated for attending such important functions.
If they have to sleep in Suva appropriate allowance must be paid with meal allowance.
They should come as volunteers not as a directive from the Ministry of Defence. These are great men who have served this country with honour and must be treated with respect.a
