More Proactive Awareness Urged

There is a need for Police officers to be more proactive in providing awareness to the general public.

This was highlighted in a question posed during the talanoa session in Lautoka by Mix FM director Richard  Lucas to Police Commissioner Bernardus Greoenwald about the possibility of a radio segment as awareness strategies could be aired.

“Majority of the time their approach to the public is not positive and not user friendly. If they could provide a positive approach and appreciate those who are abiding by the law then that would be great,” he said.

He said a ten-minute programme used to be aired two years ago where a Police officer would give safety tips or discuss important issues however the programme is no longer being run.

Mr Groenewald said the need for a radio segment, particularly in the West, was necessary because programmes were already being aired in Suva.
