The chief executive officer of the Water Authority of Fiji has praised his engineers for a job well done.

This comes after the engineers now have only 17 locations and around 4300 customers in Fiji still facing irregular water intervals.

This is an impressive drop from the 70 locations that affected more than 36,000 people.

Its chief executive officer, Opetaia Ravai, said his engineers must be congratulated for their success to reduce the numbers drastically.

“This success is even more impressive when it is considered that they continue to face a challenge of dealing with an antiquated reticulation system with undersized and aged pipes, designed decades ago to cater for a different population with different requirements,” he said in a statement.

“We have placed a high priority in eliminating intermittent water supply area and even though we have substantially reduced those households that have been affected, we are aware that there are those who suffer the daily inconvenience of inconsistent water for their daily needs.”

He said they were now in a better position to address a number of concerns caused by “this aged reticulation system (water to the tap) with Government’s financial support.
