The Fiji Fashion Week inspired many students to join the fashion industry yesterday.

The FFW held its first ever Fashion and Design Forum at the Fiji National University Raiwai Campus.

The event had various speakers to educate students on the fashion industry and choose their careers well.

FNU’s fashion and design lecturer Rosie Semisi said, “Fashion designing is something that you will love; Fiji Fashion Week has created a platform for designers and we should nurture it.”

She said FNU was always ready to perfect designers and they had few programmes that would help teach students to generate revenue through designing.

“The interest has grown and we would like to thank FFW for promoting what we teach in the course. We are introducing higher education such as diploma and degree level in the coming year.”

She also encouraged males to come forward and be part of the fashion world.

“Fashion designing is not only for females; it’s for everybody,” Ms Semisi said.

“The most famous fashion designers in the world are males.”

The speakers, apart from design lecturer Ms Semisi, included Fiji Fashion Week student designer show winner 2014 Cherish Prasad, USA established Designer Dena Burton, Fashion and Design School Sydney’s Mat lee and Outicha Joy Sawasdee.

Marist Brothers High School student Joseva Tokaibai, 16, said such forums could benefit many struggling fashion designers.

“It’s also was a good career session; this will help many students who have interest in the fashion industry,” he said.

Students from Tailevu North Secondary School, Adi Cakobau School, Nausori High School, Ballentine Memorial School, Gospel High School, Jai Narayan College, Cathedral Secondary School and John Wesley College were also part of the forum.
