Fine handicrafts, traditional mats, fans, baskets and many more items that the women of Macuata are renowned for will be on showcase during National Women’s Expo this year.

Samples of these fine crafts were on display during the Macuata Day celebration at Subrail Park in Labasa. Macuata Women’s Group vice-president, Adi Melaia Qomate said most of these women depended on handicrafts as their source of income.

“Handicrafts put food on the table for most rural women in Macuata,” Ms Qomate said.

“It is good to see that most women of Macuata came here in big numbers to showcase their handicrafts.” A group of women will be chosen to represent Macuata during the National Women’s Expo, scheduled from October 14 to 16 this year. Macuata Day closes today.
