Thai PM To Visit

The Prime Minister of Thailand, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, will visit Fiji in September.

He will be the chief guest at the Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF) summit.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama confirmed the visit of General Prayut from Bangkok, shortly after Mr Bainimarama was appointed the chairperson of the 71st Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.

He said General Prayut had accepted an invitation he extended to him on Monday.

General Prayut is to join a growing list of world leaders who have visited Fiji since August last year.

The then President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, was the chief guest at the PIDF summit in Denarau, Nadi, in August.

In November, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Fiji, followed by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Mr Bainimarama also invited General Prayut to open a diplomatic mission in Suva

The two leaders had discussed a range of issues, including trade and military co-operation. Mr Bainimarama returns home on Sunday.
