Verata chief, Turaga na Ratu mai Verata Ratu Ivereimi Ravoka died yesterday.

The Prime Minister’s Office had confirmed to the Fiji Sun that they had relayed the message to the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainmarama, in Bangkok.

Roko Tui Tailevu Semisi Saukawa said he had been informed of the death and was at Ucunivanua Village.

He said preparations had started and they were re-painting Sobasoba, the chiefly residence.

“They are also clearing the chiefly burial ground (sautabu),” he said.

Mr Saukawa said the Prime Minister had requested to be at the funeral and they had agreed that everything would start when he arrived into the country.

“The reguregu will start on Monday,” the Roko Tui Tailevu said.

At his residence at Nabua, tents had been built as people had started coming in to pay their respects.

The late Ratu Ravoka was a firm supporter of the Prime Minister and the FijiFirst Government. The date of the chiefly funeral had yet to be confirmed.
