Fiji will lead the charge in six months time when world leaders meet in Paris for the Global Climate Summit.

This was reaffirmed by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama in Thailand yesterday.

“Fiji and the other island nations will be leading the charge at the Paris Summit to finally get the global community to wake up,” he said.

“To pressure those nations in the “coalition of the selfish” to start finally accepting that they are citizens of the World and that World doesn’t end at their own borders.”

Mr Bainimarama said the summit would go down as one of the turning points in history.

“Because we will either start taking this issue seriously or it will soon be too late.”

He called on other Pacific nations to rally together in the Pacific Way.

“We need to take the message of our extreme vulnerability to every corner of the Earth. To get the citizens of other nations to start pressuring their governments to recognise our plight and come to our assistance.”

He said the campaign begins now.

Mr Bainimarama thanked the member nations of the EU, who have committed themselves to a 40 per cent cut in carbon emissions by 2030.

“It is reductions of this magnitude that needs to be embraced by every nation and preferably even more.”
