The search for Fiji’s next representative to the 65th Miss World contest takes place next Saturday, June 6 at 11am at TappooCity in Suva.

This will be the fifth time for a Fijian representative to contest the coveted Miss World crown.

Fiji was first represented in 2004 by Aishwarya Suhkdeo followed by Koini Vakaloloma in 2012, Caireen Erbsleben in 2013 and Charlene Tafuna’i last year.

“The Miss World contest has changed since its founding in 1951 by the late Eric Morley. From what was a bikini contest is now a platform that develops and nurtures the talents of young women as well as supporting them in becoming influential figures in the community,” pageant director Andhy Blake said.

Young women between the ages of 17 and 24 years, single, who are Fiji citizens with the passion to represent Fiji on the World’s largest beauty platform are invited to attend the Miss World castings.

This year’s national final will take place from July 20 to 25 at The Pearl South Pacific Resort in Deuba.

The Miss World contest is the largest and oldest beauty contest in the World, which has forged the successful careers for many of its finalists and title holders. The most famous Miss World title holder to date is Aishwarya Rai who won the title in 1994 while representing India.

“We ensure the highest professional standards when it comes to the training and caring of our finalists. Our Miss World Fiji family prides itself on developing confidence in every young women that becomes a national finalist and this year, we have a team of professionals that will work on grooming our finalists into refined, beautiful and confident young women” Mr Blake said.

The international Miss World contest has removed the bikini round from the competition which was known as beach beauty. This year, the Miss World Fiji organisation has mirrored the efforts of the international contest and instead, introducing a resort wear segment where finalists will present designer resort wear during the coronation night.

The Fiji Broadcasting Corporation, Fiji Airways, The Pearl South Pacific Resort and F1 Mobile are some of the confirmed sponsors for this year’s event.

Miss World 2015 will take place on December 19 in Sanya, China.
