Tourists Witness Change Of Guard

More than 50 tourists gathered to witness the Change of Guard at the main gate of the President’s residence in Suva yesterday.

The Fiji Police Brass Band had escorted the incoming Police guard unit in a parade through town to the President’s residence at the Suva foreshore.

Bystander Thomas Schot, a visitor from Netherlands who has been the country since April, said he was impressed with the foot and arms drill performed to precision by the two forces.

“We don’t have these kind of events at home but it was interesting and nice to witness this today (yesterday),” he said.

The Change of Guard ceremony is a monthly tradition where the handover of guard duties between the military and Police take place.
