The 12 Queen and 13 King contestants vying for 2015 Vodafone Hibiscus titles yesterday were given a crash course on how to inspire people with their voice.

The one-day workshop at the Civic Centre in Suva was facilitated by the Million Person Project (MPP) team from the United States.

The Million Person Project (MPP) is a global project about love, storytelling and connecting change makers. MPP was founded by experienced activists come expert storytellers, Heather Box and Julian Mocine-McQueen.

MPP founder Heather Box said the workshop would motivate and inspire the contestants.

“We really see these contestants as important leaders in the Pacific. They will be using their voice in an authentic way to inspire many people,” she said.

They conducted story telling curriculum where they explored their stories that motivated contestants to build confidence.

“We run storytelling workshops and conduct one-on-one story coaching to support the world’s greatest change makers in exploring, honing and presenting their authentic personal stories. We have seen people’s effectiveness as leaders, organisers and fundraisers grow exponentially when they are willing to share personally and passionately about whom they are and what they do,” Ms Box said.

Hibiscus Event Group (Inc) chairman Hirdesh Prasad said the workshop would benefit contestants this year in advocating.

“We are grateful that the contestants were able to be part of the workshop. It provided them with the opportunity to articulate and express themselves better. Previous contestants have also undergone workshops but none as prominent as this that works to connect people from all over the world,” he said.

The Vodafone Fiji Hibiscus 2015 will be held at the Carpenters Suva City Foreshore from August 14 to 22.

Organisations and agencies willing to sponsor a contestant or wish to be part of this worthy and rewarding cause to contact the Hibiscus Events Group Inc. on 3311168 or email anjanar@hibiscusfiji.com
