O’Connell Wins Final

William O’Connell beat Samoa’s Marvin So’Onalole during the 2015 Tattslotto Fiji Open Tennis Championship Open singles final at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club in Nadi yesterday.
O’Connell, who is preparing for 2015 Pacific Games, won 6-4, 6-2.
“I knew him very well as we trained together in Lautoka centre few years ago,” said O’Connell.
“Over the years I had always looked up to Marvin as my elder brother. It’s good to win as it has been a while since Fiji won the Fiji Open.”
In their respective semifinals So’Onalole defeated Daneric Hazelman (6-4, 1-6, 7-6) while O’Connell beat Thomas Leiniker (Vanuatu) (6-3, 7-5).
It will be an all Fiji affair in the ladies Open singles final with Annie Shannon playing Mulan Kamoe..
Meanwhile, the Nadi Sports and Social Club collected $10,200 during an auction last Saturday.
Club president Mike Jamieson said the money will be given to Tennis Fiji to prepare the team for the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea on July 4-18.
