PM To Visit Canada

The Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, will be visiting Canada in August.

The Prime Minister at Valelevu confirmed this to the Fiji Sun after launch of the National Environment Week yesterday.

“Yes, I am visitng Canada in August,” he said.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, said they had to reschedule the Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF) meeting to September for the Canada visit.

Mr Bainimarama’s visit will be the first Fijian Prime Minister to visit that country in an official capacity.

He will attend the Fiji Day celebrations from August 7 to 9 in Surrey as chief guest.

The Prime Minister’s visit was also announced in the Canadian Parliament’s session last month.

His programme will be announced later.

The Prime Minister returned to the country on Sunday after visiting Japan and Thailand.

In Japan, he had attended the 7the Pacific Islands Leaders’ Meeting (PALM 7), and in Bangkok, Thailand, he attended the 71st United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.

This Thursday he will be flying off to Rome to attend the 39th session of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) conference from June 6 – 13.
