A new shipping route has been established by Government aimed at assisting people in the islands.

Today, Government vessel MV Vunilagi left for Beqa and Vatulele and is expected to continue it’s service, if it receives a positive response from the people.

The trip was first advertised in this newspaper last Saturday. When contacted yesterday, Josese Lawaniyasana of Government Shipping Services said the vessel, which was scheduled to leave on Monday will now leave at 10am from the Government Wharf in Walu Bay.

Mr Lawaniyasana said the main purpose of the trip is to assist people in transporting cargoes such as building materials to the islands.

This is a service deprived from the people who often transport their materials to the islands using dinghies or small boats that are currently being used for travelling to and from the islands.”

For those who are interested in sending their stuff to the islands, reservations are to be made first to the GSS office in Walu Bay, before payment could be made at their Ministry of Transport headquarters at Nasilivata House, in Samabula.

People who wish to travel to the islands have to pay $30 for adults, $15 for children up to 12 years-old while those who are five years and below can travel for free.
